Personally, I would rather read than watch a movie any day, so as you can imagine I have LOTS of book recommendations. First is the A court of thorns and roses series, immaculate imagery. Second, Zero Repeat Forever, interesting take on the apocalypse trope. Third, Caraval for being able to shock me with the plot twists, I usually see them coming.
I've heard about "A Court of Thorns" from several people, I'll definitely check it out!
