How did Google Apps for Ed get its start at LBCC? Back in 2008, when we were looking at moving to a new Learning Management System (LMS - Moodle), I noticed our system at the time was full of links to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files. Not wanting students to be required to have anything other than a computer with an Internet connection, I researched ways to deploy learning content outside of the tired… I mean tried-and-true Microsoft Office products. Having worked with Google Docs for a few years prior to coming to LBCC, I looked into signing up LBCC as a Google Apps for Ed institution. And the rest is history…

What you see below is one of the oldest and longest-running Google Presentations at LBCC, the "Did You Know?" slideshow, playing on hundreds of web pages on various campus sites. Note that it's not playing in PowerPoint, but rather Flash. I didn't have to do the Flash programming for it, though, as Google does all of that work on-the-fly in the background.
