Welcome to ED219: Social Justice, Civil Rights and Multicultural Education! This course is licensed CC BY 4.0 except where otherwise noted.

This course was created by Kanoe Bunney, Education & Human Development and Family Services Faculty at Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) in Albany, OR. Thank you to LBCC for the grant funding that made this work possible.

This is a ten week course broken into thematic topics. Its current design is hybrid, though you will find a mix of asynchronous and synchronous activity options. It can be modified for any modality. One critical activity is the student reflective journal, which in this hybrid section was done in print journals only; with permission, we have included a scanned student notebook example to illustrate this course element.

This course includes links to two highly relevant OER in the Start Here Module, Diversity and Multicultural Education in the 21st Century (CC BY NC SA 4.0) and Beyond Race Cultural Influences on Human Social Life (CC BY NC SA 4.0). The 2 instances where this course references those OER are licensed CC BY NC SA 4.0, and are labeled as such.

It also contains excerpts of copyrighted materials as pedagogically required, included under fair use. Reusers must make their own fair use analyses and decisions. Please include this note when sharing.

The course is designed as an in-person course which meets 1-2 times per week.  The instructor has provided weekly course assignments and activities which meet course outcomes.  There are also supplemental and optional assignments and materials.  Feel free to use these suggested resources if time permits.
