Welcome to the ART102 Understanding Art open course! This course is licensed CC BY SA 4.0. The syllabus, course readings, and assignments can also be found in this Google Folder.

This course was created by Laura Butler-Hughes, Andrew Douglas Campbell, Isabelle Havet, and Daniel Lopez, Visual Arts Faculty at Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, OR. Thank you to Open Oregon Educational Resources for the grant funding that made this work possible.

This course contains a revised and remixed version of Introduction to Art: Design, Context, and Meaning by Pamela Sachant, University of North GeorgiaPeggy Blood, Savannah State UniversityJeffery LeMieux, College of Coastal Georgia, and Rita Tekippe, University of West Georgia.

This is a ten week course broken into thematic topics. Its current design is asynchronous online, though you will find a mix of asynchronous and synchronous activity options. It can be modified for any modality. 

Lessons

Lessons in PowerPoint format have also been developed for this course. Currently, the lessons are not ready to be openly licensed. They are available upon request. By making this request, instructors agree to conduct their own Fair Use analyses on their potential usage of the Lessons. You may want to reference the Code of Best Practices for Fair Use in OER when interpreting how Fair Use may apply in your context.
