1. Welcome to Week 7

We've made it past the halfway mark! Well done. This week, our focus is on Essay 2 for half the week, and Essay 3 for the rest. To give you ample time for revision, I've nudged a few deadlines later -- the calendar at the top of the week and this book will have the most reliable information.

Essay 2 In Review

Your second essay should be done this week as soon as possible. Make Friday your target, if you can! Get it off of your desk and on to mine as soon as you can, for two reasons:

1). You'll be digging into information about Essay 3 and the final presentation starting Thursday, and it's easier to think of one paper at a time.

2). The faster I get the essays, the faster you get them back. You can revise Essay 1 and Essay 2 for a higher grade, multiple times -- but it takes me a while to return them.

2. To-Do List This Week

Here's what's due and when this week. Please note that the second half of the week looks crowded, but you can do 7.8 (forum post) any time during the week to get ahead.

By Wednesady:

  1. Read this book (good!)
  2. Read "On the Other Hand," which covers effective counterarguments. This is critical reading for Essay 2 and 3 success.
By Sunday:

  1. Read the Final Presentation Directions
  2. Read the Essay 3 Instructions
  3. Take the Quiz over Essay 3/Final
  4. Complete the Essay 2 revision plan or schedule a conference with me. You need to submit your plan to get credit.
  5. Post to the Word Choice forum. I'll be posting my own observations on word choice at the end -- a few words showed up so frequently in Essay 1 that they might need to be zapped from all of our dictionaries!
  6. Submit your final draft of Essay 2.

Have a great week!
